TEACHER’S DEVOTIONAL: In the tumultuous twists and turns of life sometimes we don’t esteem the awesomeness of God as we ought to. Psalm 19:1 tells us that “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handy work” and John 1:3 records “All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made.” We serve a great and mighty God. This awesome God of the universe is pure perfection. The Lord is the source and sustainer of all life. King David wrote “Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there Your hand shall lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me. If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall on me,” even the night shall be light about me; indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, but the night shines as the day; the darkness and the light are both alike to You” (Psalm 139:7-12). How big is our God! At times we tend to overlook His divine nature and its purpose. Jehovah has established unique relationships with us in each of His persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) so that He can be glorified in all situations and at all times. In echoing the sentiments of King David no matter your current circumstances and issues be it health, relationship, employment & finances – whatever the case may be know that there is nothing too big for God!

Read Psalm 19 and receive the revelation of Him. Know that the LORD our God sees you! He is there for you, He will carry you through, and He will never leave you …and be faithful to pass this revelation on to the children you teach!

MODULE MEMORY VERSE: 1 John 5:7-8 – “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.”

PRECEPT#1: God is the source of life. He existed from the very beginning. Everything that exist and will ever exist was made by God and belongs to Him.

SCRIPTURE READING: Genesis 1:1-2 - In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. (NOTE: If there is sufficient time give an overview of the the remaining verses of Genesis 1:2-31.)

SCRIPTURE INTERPRETATION (THE BREAKDOWN): God has always existed (always been) from the very beginning. He was not created by anything or anyone. God is the Creator of all things and all life. He is bigger than big and He is greater than great. God holds everything in the palm of His hand.

God even tells us this in Isaiah 43:10 “And understand this that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed nor shall there be after Me.” God is telling us that He has always existed and nothing existed before Him. God is the beginning of all things.

  ACTIVITY #1(OBJECT LESSON)

ACTIVITY #1(OBJECT LESSON): Take out 1 piece of rice crispy (or grain of rice), show it to the class, and ask the kids to take a guess at what it is. After they’ve guessed ask them to use their imagination. Instruct them to imagine that the 1 piece of rice crispy (or grain of rice) is the entire galaxy, universe, all planets, earth, all people, animals – it’s everything that exist and will ever exist! Encourage them to imagine this has hard as they can.

Next ask the kids to raise 1 arm up, shake it out, and hold it out. Instruct the children to open up their hand as wide as they possibly can. Then place 1 piece of rice crispy (or grain of rice) in the middle of the palm of their hand. Make sure the kids don’t eat it. After all the children have received a piece of rice crispy (or grain of rice) ask them to imagine that their individual hand is the hand of God. Again encourage them to imagine this as hard as they can. Next, ask them to tell you how big/ great God is based on what they’re imagining. Listen to their responses and give positive acknowledgement as well as clarification if needed.

  WRAP UP:

WRAP UP: Restate precept #1 – Remember God is the source of life. Everything that exist and will ever exist was made by God and belongs to Him.

  CONCLUSION (THE BIG PICTURE):

CONCLUSION (THE BIG PICTURE): Conclude by telling the children the Good News: We all make mistakes and do wrong and bad sometimes. When we do wrong and bad it is called sin. Sin is disobedience to God. We all sin. Sin separates us from God. God the Son (Jesus) came to save us from sin. Jesus Christ is our Savior.

The Bible says “Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Acts 2:21). This means that if you A) admit that you are a sinner because you have done wrong and bad; B) believe that Jesus is the Son of God, that He came to earth, died on the cross, and came back to life to take away all of your sins; C) confess that Jesus is Lord and ask Him to come into your life; Jesus will come just like you ask!

Jesus Christ (God the Son) will come into your life and cover you with His love! Jesus will take away all your sins and you will be forgiven! He will love you and never stop loving you! He will never leave you! Jesus will send God the Holy Spirit to live in your heart. Holy Spirit will help you and fight for you! Holy Spirit will show you how to obey God. Holy Spirit will give you power to overcome (defeat) sin. Holy Spirit will help you spread God’s love to others! You will be in a relationship with God and you will never be separated from God again!

LESSON #2: THE TRIUNITY OF GOD

PRECEPT #2: The Bible tells us that God is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

BIBLE VERSE READING: 1 John 5:7-8 – “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.”

BIBLE VERSE INTERPRETATION (THE BREAKDOWN): God is 3 persons in one; He is triune. “Tri” mean 3 and “une” means 1 so triune means 3 in 1. The Bible calls this the Godhead. We who believe in Jesus (Christians/ Believers) call this the Holy Trinity.

  ACTIVITY #1:

ACTIVITY #1: Have kids repeat “triune means 3 in 1; the Holy Trinity (Godhead) is triune (3 in 1)”.

Next, slowly and clearly read 1 John 5:7-8 again to the class and have the children repeat the Bible verse after you. Next, ask the kids to raise their hands if they’d like to take a guess at what it means to be triune (3 in 1). Randomly select a few students to answer; listen to their responses and give positive acknowledgement as well as clarification if needed.

Close the activity by stating that the Holy Trinity (Godhead) means that God is the Father, God is the Son (Jesus Christ our Savior), and God is the Holy Spirit (our Helper). God is all of these 3 persons at the very same time and all the time. God is 3 in 1; He is triune. Have the children repeat after you “God is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God is 3 in 1; He is triune.”

ACTIVITY #2:

ACTIVITY #2 (OBJECT LESSON): Take out the sliced apples and show it to the kids. Ask the children what it is. Next, ask the children to look at the slices of apple very carefully and to tell you how many different “parts” they see on each slice (i.e. skin, pulp, and seed); listen to their responses and give positive acknowledgement as well as clarification if needed. After responses relay to the children that the apple has 3 parts. Each of the apple slices have the skin, the pulp, and the seeds. All 3 parts together make up the apple; it must have all 3 parts to be an apple. The apple is triune.

Continue on by relaying to the children that God is also triune. God is 3 persons in 1. God is the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ our Savior), and Holy Spirit (our Helper). God is all of these 3 persons at the very same time and all the time. Listen to their comments and take questions if any. Give positive acknowledgement as well as clarification if needed.

ACTIVITY #3:

ACTIVITY #3 (OBJECT LESSON): Next, show a picture of an egg. Ask the children how many different parts an egg has and tell them to name each part (i.e. shell, egg white/ plasma, and yolk). Listen to their responses and give positive acknowledgement and clarification if needed. Next, relay to the children that the egg has 3 parts. The egg has the shell, the egg white (or plasma), and the yolk. All the 3 parts together make up the egg. The egg is triune.

State that God is triune; He is 3 persons in 1. God the Father is almost like the shell of the egg, God is also the Son (Jesus Christ our Savior) who is almost like the egg white (or plasma), and God is also the Holy Spirit who is almost like the yolk of the egg. God is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit all at the same time. Next, slowly and clearly read 1 John 5:7-8 and have kids repeat the bible verse after you.

Close the object lesson by relaying to the children that God is triune. God is 3 persons in 1. God is the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ our Savior), and Holy Spirit (our Helper). All three together make God. God is all of these 3 persons at the very same time and all the time. Listen to their comments and take questions if any. Give positive acknowledgement as well as clarification if needed.

ACTIVITY #4:

(OPTIONAL) ACTIVITY #4: Hand out 2 pieces of paper (1 construction paper and 1 8X11 sheet of paper) to each of the children and pass out crayons. Have them draw a large block size cross on the construction paper, as well as color and decorate it. On the 2nd piece of paper have the children draw 3 medium size boxes (NOTE: the “boxes” will be used as labels to place on each part of the cross). Instruct the kids to write each of the 3 persons of the Holy Trinity on each of the labels (i.e. label 1 write “Father”, label 2 write “Son”, and label 3 write “Holy Spirit). Next, have the children cut out the labels and place it on the cross (NOTE: Father should be placed at the top of the cross, Son should be place on the right arm of the cross, and Holy Spirit should be place on the left arm of the cross). Once all the crosses have been completed have the children display their art work and give positive feedback.

Close by having the children repeat the following statements after you:

  • 1) “God is 3 persons in 1; He is triune.”
  • 2) “God is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.”
  • 3) “God is my Father, my Savior (the Son Jesus Christ), and my Helper (Holy Spirit).”

Instruct the entire class to energetically shout “AMEN!!!”

WRAP UP (THE OVERALL MODULE TAKE AWAY):

WRAP UP (THE OVERALL MODULE TAKE AWAY): God is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God made each of you and loves each of you very much. God wants to have a relationship with each of you. God is your Father, your Savior (the Son Jesus Christ), and your Helper (Holy Spirit). God loves you and always wants you to be with Him.

CONCLUSION (THE BIG PICTURE):

CONCLUSION (THE BIG PICTURE): Conclude by telling the children the Good News: We all make mistakes and do wrong and bad sometimes. When we do wrong and bad it is called sin.
